Map of Sipadan Dive Sites
To help you get familiar with the area, we’ve added a simple dive map showing where the top dive sites are located around Sipadan Island. From ‘Barracuda Point’ to ‘Turtle Tomb,’ each site wraps around the island in a way that makes boat trips efficient and exciting.
Most dive trips to Sipadan are planned as three-dive day excursions. Your dive boat will usually circle the island between each surface interval, stopping at different sites depending on conditions and diver experience.
Whether you’re drifting along the ‘Drop Off’ or exploring the deep reef walls at ‘South Point,’ this map gives a quick overview of how the sites are laid out. It’s a great way to visualise the adventure ahead.

Drop Off
The Drop Off at Sipadan starts right next to the island’s main jetty on the northern side, making it one of the most famous and accessible dive sites here. Just a few fin kicks from the beach, the seabed suddenly plunges into a dramatic vertical wall that descends hundreds of metres. The wall is covered with a rich mix of hard and soft corals, home to turtles, reef fish, and schools of jacks. In the blue water beside you, barracuda, batfish, reef sharks, and eagle rays often cruise past. If you look closely along the ledges and overhangs, you might spot giant turtles resting. This site is also popular for night dives, when bumphead parrotfish can be seen sleeping on the wall.
Type of dive
Wall dive with dramatic drop-offs, vibrant corals, and pelagic sightings. Great for spotting large schools of fish and turtles, and ideal for photographers who enjoy vertical reef walls.
Depth
Shallow entry from around 5 to 10 metres before dropping to extreme depths far below recreational diving limits. Most divers stay between 15 and 30 metres where the action is.

Turtle Tomb
Turtle Tomb is one of the most unique and haunting dives in Sipadan. Hidden inside a cave system connected to The Drop Off, this site is known for its eerie beauty and historical significance. The tomb’s floor is covered with white sand and fine dust, along with the preserved skeletons of turtles that could not find their way back out. There is also the skeleton of a dolphin inside the cavern, adding to its mystery. Entering this site is like stepping into a part of Sipadan few divers ever get to see. Because of its enclosed passages and low light, it is only suitable for properly trained and equipped cave divers who dive with experienced local guides.
Type of dive
Advanced cave dive with overhead environments and multiple passages. It is suited only for highly trained divers who have the right equipment and experience to navigate its tunnels safely.
Depth
Most of the cave lies between 17 and 23 metres. Visibility inside can reach up to 30 metres, depending on conditions.

As you descend along the steep coral wall, you’ll pass turtles resting on ledges and reef sharks cruising in the blue. The highlight of the dive is the famous barracuda tornado, a swirling school of thousands of chevron barracuda that fills your view as you drift through the current. With strong chances of spotting grey reef sharks, tunas, trevallies and even the occasional hammerhead, Barracuda Point is fast-paced, thrilling and full of surprises at every turn.
