    Important notes

    • Minimum requirement: Must hold a valid Advance Open Water certification.
    • Sipadan access: Permits are limited and confirmed on a first-come, first-served basis.
    • Weather: Activities and timing may change due to weather or sea conditions.
    • Safety: All sessions follow strict safety protocols and PADI standards.
    • Refunds: Cancellations are subject to our refund policy (please refer to booking terms); Permits and park fees are non-refundable once issued.
    • We work closely with a licensed operating partner registered under MOTAC (Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia), Reg. No: [L/N/11768] to ensure all tours meet local safety and quality standards.

    Itinerary

    Day 1 [Mabul Dive]:

    • Boat departure from Semporna to Mabul Island at 0830 hours
    • Arrival at Mabul Island
    • You will be briefed regarding the accommodation and program
    • First Dive at 1030 hours
    • Room checked in
    • Lunch at 1230 hours
    • Second Dive at 1400 hours
    • Third Dive at 1600 hours
    • Dinner at 1700 hours

    Day 2 [Sipadan Dive]:

    • Breakfast at 0700 hours
    • Boat departure to Sipadan at 0930hours
    • First Sipadan dive
    • Lunch provided
    • Second Sipadan dive
    • Returning to Mabul at 1500 hours
    • Third Dive in Mabul Island
    • Dinner at 1900 hours

    Day 3:

    • Breakfast at 0700 hours
    • Room check out
    • Boat departure from Mabul to Semporna at 1200 hours
    • Airport transfer from Semporna to Tawau Airport

    What to Expect from Your Stay

    Our accommodation in Mabul is simple, clean, and designed for travellers who value comfort, connection, and local culture — not luxury. Here’s what you can expect:

    Rooms & Facilities:

    • Basic fan rooms with clean beds and shared bathrooms
    • Overwater deck available with stunning sunset views
    • Shared bathrooms are located outside the rooms and cleaned regularly
    • Electricity runs from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM only
    • Outdoor BBQ and social area with hammocks for relaxing

    Experience & Atmosphere:

    • Relaxed backpacker vibe — cosy, not fancy
    • Live music (busking) on some nights by friendly local staff
    • Sunset and stargazing right from our deck area
    • Walkable access to Kampung Mabul to explore village life
    • Support local fishermen by buying fresh seafood directly from the Bajau Laut community
    • Team available onsite to assist you throughout your stay

    This is a budget-style, community-run stay. It’s best suited for easy-going travellers comfortable with shared spaces, limited electricity hours, and an island lifestyle.

    • Prefer added comfort? Air-conditioned rooms with 24-hour electricity and a private bathroom are available for an additional RM90 per person, per night (minimum booking of 2 pax).

    Planning your journey to Semporna and Mabul is simple. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you arrive smoothly:

    Step 1: Fly to Sabah

    Start by flying into Sabah, East Malaysia. You can choose one of the following airports:

    Option A: Tawau Airport (TWU) — Recommended

    • Closest airport to Semporna
    • Flights available from:
      • Kuala Lumpur (~2 hours 45 minutes)
      • Kota Kinabalu (~1 hour)

    Option B: Sandakan Airport (SDK)

    • A more scenic but longer route
    • Flights available from:
      • Kuala Lumpur (~2 hours 45 minutes)
      • Kota Kinabalu (~45 minutes to 1 hour)

    Major airlines such as AirAsia and Malaysia Airlines operate regular flights to both airports.

    Step 2: Land Transfer to Semporna

    From Tawau Airport:

    • Travel by taxi or private vehicle
    • Duration: ~1 hour 15 minutes

    From Sandakan:

    • By bus: ~5 to 6 hours
    • By private transfer/taxi: ~4 to 5 hours, depending on traffic

    Step 3: Island Hopping from Semporna

    Once in Semporna, your island experience begins!

    • Depart by speedboat to explore Mataking Island, Timba-Timba Island, and Pandanan Island
    • Route C (see map): ~30–40 min from Semporna to these islands

    Step 4: Boat Transfer to Mabul Island

    • Depart by speedboat to Mabul Island
    • Route B (see map): ~45 minutes to 1 hour from Semporna

    ✅ Private boat arrangements available for groups of 4 or more

    TERMS & CONDITIONS

    Please take a moment to read through these terms before confirming your booking with The Borneo Nomads. By making a reservation and submitting payment, you acknowledge and accept the terms outlined below.

    RESERVATION & CONFIRMATION

    To secure your spot, we require a deposit and confirmation of your travel details.

    • Upon Booking: RM350 deposit per person (non-refundable)
    • 90 Days Before Departure: 50% of the outstanding amount
    • 45 Days Before Departure: Balance of the outstanding amount

    Confirmation will be issued upon receipt of your deposit.

    PAYMENT

    All payments are to be made via bank transfer to the following account:

    After transferring, kindly send us your proof of payment via WhatsApp or email.

    Please note: For international transfers, guests are responsible for any bank or conversion fees. Be sure to confirm the exact payable amount with us before making payment.

    CANCELLATION POLICY

    We understand plans can change. However, as our trips involve advance arrangements, the following cancellation fees apply:

    • 59–90 Days Before Departure: 75% of total package price
    • Within 60 Days of Departure: 100% of total package price
    • No-show on Departure Day: 100% of total package price

    Cancellations must be made in writing via email.

    CHANGES & FORCE MAJEURE

    In rare cases, The Borneo Nomads reserves the right to make necessary adjustments to itineraries, accommodations, or activities due to weather, safety, or operational requirements. We will communicate these changes as early as possible.

    FACILITY & SERVICE LIMITATIONS

    Some destinations may involve basic amenities or ongoing developments. While we do our best to inform you, we recommend guests check with us for the latest updates on facilities and experiences.

    LIABILITY

    By booking with The Borneo Nomads, you acknowledge and accept that participation in our tours and services is at your own risk. You are responsible for your personal safety at all times. The Borneo Nomads shall not be held liable for any loss, injury, damage to property, personal accident, delay, irregularity, or cancellation arising from circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to weather conditions, government regulations, health risks, or force majeure events.

    Travellers are responsible for ensuring they have valid passports, travel documents, and meet any health requirements or insurance coverage.
